Machinery Guarding
We've supplied standard and bespoke machine guarding for over 30 years, as part of a company with over 70 years' experience designing and manufacturing engineering solutions for UK industry. Every guard starts with a site survey, so we understand exactly how a machine is used before we design around it, then build it in our own factory using CAD and fit it with our own engineers. We have expertise not only in designing and manufacturing machine safety guards, but also in a wide range of industrial safety areas, such as risk assessments, safety training, and motor-stopping devices.
Our Machinery Guarding service often begins with a thorough survey of your machinery followed by a presentation of our recommendations. Once accepted we design the customised system using the latest CAD technology.
It will then be manufactured in our modern factory and finally installed on site by our experienced engineers.

Tailor Made Solutions For Total Safety
From concept to commissioning, we take care that you and your workforce never have to trust your safety to luck. All RDM Machinery Guarding Systems comply fully with the most recent additions to the Health and Safety at Work Regulations and any other relevant legislation, integrating effectively alongside secondary safety controls like Drivloc electronic braking.

FAQs
Our standard machine guards cover the common categories, like surface grinders, lathes, milling machines, and drilling machines, and are supplied as proven, off-the-shelf designs that fit straight onto the machine.
Where a standard guard isn’t a good match, whether because of an unusual layout, several machines needing to be fenced together, or a process that needs guarding in a way no catalogue product covers, we design a bespoke system from a site survey, using CAD to build it around the exact machine and space involved.
We manufacture both routes in-house and fit them with our own engineers, and both comply fully with current Health and Safety at Work regulations.
We supply dedicated guarding for surface grinders, turning machines, milling machines, and drilling machines, as well as standard machine fencing for wider work cells and production areas.
Each machine type has its own guard design, reflecting how the operator works around it: a surface grinder needs a shockproof viewing screen over the wheel, a lathe needs headstock, carriage, and chuck protection against swarf and coolant, a milling machine needs a guard that can tilt or swing with the cutter, and a drilling machine needs a guard that tracks the stroke of the drill.
We also offer bespoke guarding for other machine types and combined production lines.
Our machine guards are built from steel with shockproof polycarbonate, or, in some cases, laminated glass viewing screens, so operators can see into the work area without exposure to swarf, coolant, or moving parts.
Standard machine fencing is formed from folded mild steel panelwork with an epoxy-coated finish, available as plain solid panels or panels punched with a pattern of square or round holes, which gives the visibility of a mesh panel with the strength of a solid one. Every guard comes standard with a safety micro switch, and a full range of electrical interlocks is available so the machine can’t run with the guard open.
