Powder Coating Plants
RDM have been manufacturing and supplying Powder Coating Plant since the 1970's and have a unique level of experience. Powder coating is an excellent alternative to wet paint and offers a superb finish. Solvents are avoided and far higher coating thickness is possible. To start Powder Coating you will require some or all of the following equipment.
Normally, to apply a ‘wet’ Paint, solvents are required to allow the Paint to become a liquid thus allowing it to be applied to the object to be Painted the solvent also make the paint sticky, causing it to adhere to the surface.
With Powder Coating, only the Paint solids are sprayed onto the product, in an atomised powder form. The Powder is drawn to the product and adheres to the product due to an electrostatic charge applied to the Powder during spraying.
The Product, thus covered with the Powder Paint is then heated (to around 200 degrees Centigrade) in an Oven, wherein the powder fuses (melts) on to the product and thus forms a smooth, tough and resilient coating.
What are the benefits or Powder Coating?
Because the powder is fused onto the product, it has excellent scratch resistance properties. It also has a pleasing ‘smooth’ appearance and forms a sealed skin around the product thus minimising corrosion risk.
Unlike wet paint, ‘Over spray’ powders can be collected and re-used! When you consider that in any paint spraying system, only around 50% of the paint for powder) actually lards on the job, then large savings are clearly possible if the over spray can be re-used.
Because powder is applied electrostatically, is fully recoverable and is easily cleaned away, powder is ideally suited to simple, automatic application thus minimising labour requirements.
For Powder Coating, a curing Oven, typically running at 200 centigrade is required to cure off the Powder. The RDM ovens are produced using a modular design concept.
The ovens are constructed utilising standardised modules, panels and components. Many standard sizes are availalbe, plus unusual sizes or models can be simply produced at a competitive price. A computer assisted design technique optimises the components required for any oven layout.
Alloy Wheel Powder Plant
RDM Engineering are specialists in complete plants specially suited to the needs of the Alloy Wheel Refurbishment industry. We can supply the appropriate Booths, Ovens, Cleanrooms, Acid Tanks and Conveyors. Please contact our sales team for a quote.
To apply Powder a Spraybooth extraction system is needed, this provides a safer environment for the operators, contains the powder and can be used to reclaim the powder on some models.
RDM Engineering is the one of the World’s Largest Manufacturer of Paint & Powder Spraybooths. We offer a full service from the supply of a simple manual spraybooth to a complete, fully automated Line.
It is very important that metal items are cleaned fully prior to applying Powder, equally it is sometimes necessary to apply a chemical treatment as part of this process.
RDM manufacturing the UK’s most comprehensive range of Pre- Treatment Plant, we make Dip Tank systems, Box Washers and full In-Line Systems.
